At least eight dead in South African goldmine accident

Rescuers recovered eight bodies and continued to search for another missing worker...after a fire and rock-fall at a Harmony Gold mine near Johannesburg...Mineral Resources Minister Susan Shabangu ordered an investigation into the incident...after initial reports that the fire was triggered by a small earthquake..."The situation is deeply regrettable," Shabangu said..."We must ensure that we...[identify] what caused this incident...to prevent similar occurrences in future."...[G]overnment, unions and companies have worked to improve safety, but 112 people were still killed in 2012...NUM [National Union of Mineworkers] Secretary General Frans Baleni...[said] "We cannot just say that it is regrettable.
