Bahrain: 1,600 migrant labour camps violate health & safety standards, prompt overcrowding fears

More than 1,600 labour accommodations have been found violating laws concerning overcrowding, a senior minister has revealed...

notifications had been sent to 1,049 of the 1,604 labour camps inspected to rectify their situations...

“We are at a critical time and the labour accommodation owners should abide by the law,” [Muharraq Municipal Council chairman Ghazi Al Murbati] said in a statement yesterday.

“Some owners cramp the poor labourers together and sometimes they put eight workers in one small room together.”..

The minister stressed the need to relocate expatriate labourers to alternative accommodations to avert infections.
