Japan Center for Engagement and Remedy on Business and Human Rights: Strengthening access to remedy through support for human rights grievance mechanisms

12 October 2022, the Japan Center for Engagement and Remedy on Business and Human Rights (JaCER) announced the operational launch of receiving reports of grievances and the "Engagement and Remedy Platform," which provide support for redressing grievances on 13 member companies.

JaCER has been established in Tokyo and aims to provide a non-judicial platform for grievance redress and to act in a professional capacity to support and promote redress of grievances by member companies based on the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.

Grievances on human rights violation can be submitted to JaCER in both English and Japanese on its website (JaCER will receive grievances regarding human rights violation cases related to the regular member companies including their group companies and supply chains).

JaCER aims to contribute to strengthening the efforts of Japanese companies regarding "Access to Remedies" as required by the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights by supporting the grievance mechanisms. It also intends to operate and improve their operations in cooperation with various stakeholders related to business and human rights through “Advisory Board” and “Stakeholders Panel” consisting of external experts and NGOs, etc.
