BNSF, Union Pacific Sued for Pollution [USA]

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) filed a lawsuit with federal courts earlier this week against Union Pacific Corporation and BNSF Railway Co. – both in California. The filing claims that the two rail operators have violated the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, which regulates the disposal of hazardous solid waste. The filing comes after some neighbourhoods near rail facilities say that the pollution is making them sick, and they don’t want their children to be at risk...BNSF officials said in a statement that the lawsuit is misleading...Union Pacific officials have not looked over the lawsuit as of this reporting. However, they said in a statement that the Class I is still in compliance with federal and state regulations.
