Brazil blames Petroleum of Venezuela for oil spill polluting over 130 beaches; Venezuela rejects claim

“Venezuela rejects accusations of Brazil over oil spill”, 10th October 2019

…Petroleum Minister Manuel Quevedo today rejected the statements of the Brazilian government regarding the responsibility of the state-owned company Petroleum of Venezuela (PDVSA) with the oil spill on its coasts…

'We categorically reject the unfounded accusations of Brazilian government officials who intend to endorse an oil spill that impacts the coasts of that country to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and our main industry', the president of that company also wrote.

On the same platform, the minister of that portfolio ratified the South American nation's commitment to Mother Earth, as established by national environmental laws.

Quevedo's statements follow one another after Brazil's Environment Minister Ricardo Salles said in a report by Brazilian state oil company Petrobas had determined that the crude oil that contaminates the northeast beaches of that nation since September comes from Venezuela.

The oil spill reached 61 municipalities in nine Brazilian states, polluting more than 130 beaches, in what the local authorities have described as an unprecedented disaster.
