Brazil: United Nations Human Rights Council criticizes the marginalization of minorities and poor populations after its austerity program

In the beginning of August 2018, seven experts of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva made an appeal to Brazil for the reconsideration of the measures in the recent economic austerity program. They asked the Brazilian government to “put its people’s Human Rights in first place”. According to the Council, the policies harm directly the minorities, specially women, children and African descendants, aside from having significant impact on poor populations. Brazil, that has already been a model in fighting hunger and poverty, now must face alarming data. One of the  most startling fact is the first raise in the child mortality rate in 26 years.
