Business and Human Rights: Accountability and Expectations [Sydney, 28 Sep]

This lecture will consider the Framework and Guiding Principles developed by John Ruggie and approved by the UN Human Rights Council. This Framework is a considerable step forward in gathering consensus between governments, corporations and many NGOs, and has clarified a number of key matters. Yet it will be argued that there remain serious absences of legal accountability and a lack of effective remedies against corporations that violate human rights.
