Principles for Responsible Management Education Work Stream for Business and Human Rights

Businesses should encourage schools to develop human rights curricula & aid alleviation of refugee crisis, says Principles for Responsible Management Education

"Re: Letter to Academic Institutions and Call for Action on Refugee Crisis," 12 Nov 2015

On behalf of the United Nations Global Compact-supported Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) Work Stream for Business and Human Rights, we wish to bring to your attention two important initiatives. The first is an invitation to sign the letter that we are presenting to the deans of business schools…to develop curricula that are…relevant for the principles…of corporate responsibility, especially in the area of human rights. The second initiative concerns…the global refugee crisis…We believe it is particularly important now that students graduating from business schools have a full understanding of how companies can address such issues…

  1. …UN Global Compact circulated a letter…so as to bring human rights issues to the attention of academic institutions…We strongly encourage you to join with other major corporations by signing this letter
  2. …[W]e also strongly encourage you to join the Call to Action and make a commitment to help alleviate the [refugee] crisis by communicating about some of the actions that your company might already be taking…
