Cambodia: CENTRAL calls on govt. to intervene to facilitate the repatriation of 21 workers stranded in Jordan

Center for Alliance of Labor and Human Rights ... called for the government’s assistance in the repatriation of 21 Cambodian workers currently stranded in Jordan.

..., Central said the workers from Vega Textile Co Ltd and Camel Textile International Corporation pleaded for help after their respective companies ended their employment ...

The factories, located in the Jordan city, Al-Karak, are under a Taiwan-based parent company which also operates two factories in Cambodia – the Optimum Fashion Manufacturing Co Ltd and UIC Apparel Manufacturing Co Ltd.

“According to the unified contract for migrant workers in Jordan, as well as the workers’ verbal agreements with these companies prior to leaving Cambodia, Vega Textile and Camel Textile has the responsibility of purchasing the [workers’] flight tickets back to Cambodia upon the end of their employment,” the statement said...

Central executive director Moeun Tola said: “I’m looking forward to seeing the immediate intervention of the Cambodian government in saving their citizens who are helplessly stuck abroad while facing unemployment and no means to return home.”

He expressed hope for a successful repatriation flight organised by the Cambodian government, similar to last month’s operation which saw the evacuation of Cambodian workers stranded in Malaysia...
