Cambodia: Govt. suspends 22 construction sites in Sihanoukville province after finding out they lack licenses

Land Management Minister Chea Sophara has ordered the temporary suspension of work at 22 unlicensed construction sites in Sihanoukville.

Keat Sovon, chief of the Preah Sihanouk provincial construction office, ... said Mr Sophara issued the orders while inspecting construction sites in the city, along with Preah Sihanouk Provincial Governor Kuoch Chamroeun, ...

“..., work at nine construction sites were temporarily stopped and today [yesterday] 13 more also had to temporarily suspend work because they did not have construction licenses,” he said.

Mr Sovon noted that the public and investors should request for construction licenses first before starting to build...

Mr Sovon noted that provincial officials and experts from the Land Management Ministry have inspected almost 600 construction sites in Sihanoukville for more than a month.

“Our officials inspected 595 construction sites in Sihanoukville over the past month and work on some other sites were also suspended,” Mr Sovon said, adding that he could not remember the number of sites involved.
