Central African Republic faces ban on diamond trade

The Central African Republic could face a ban on exports of its diamonds if the Kimberley Process...approves a suspension...Controls there had collapsed after a March coup, Kimberley Process chairman...[said] at a meeting of the World Diamond Council...Mining continued in areas controlled by the rebels, "and the diamonds that are being mined are not finding themselves in the rightful place where they can undergo all the processes that are Kimberley Process compliant"...At the moment there were no guarantees that the systems were in place for Kimberley Process certification to be issued declaring those diamonds to be "conflict free"...
