Timberland has a 3-step approach to engagement with factory management: 1) We identify issues and ask the supplier to remedy. 2) If the supplier does not improve in the given amount of time, we offer resources in order to help them meet the requirements. 3) If additional resources fails we will disengage, but only if workers can be given another opportunity for employment...Kingmaker [Footwear] is in stage two.

Las ONG con sede en Estados Unidos China Labor Watch (CLW) y National Labor Comittee (NLC), junto con la francesa Novéthic, han reiterado sus denuncias acerca de las violaciones de los derechos laborales que sufren los trabajadores de uno de los proveedores chinos [Kingmaker Footwear] del grupo de calzado y textil estadounidense Timberland...En Estados Unidos, por el contrario, el pasado enero la compañía escribió a National Labor Comittee: reconoció su responsabilidad en el control de los proveedores y expuso su filosofía de "compromiso constructivo".

De quoi relancer le débat sur le crédit à accorder aux systèmes de contrôle des entreprises sur le terrain...Se disant très soucieuse, Timberland reconnaît sa responsabilité dans les agissements de ses sous-traitants, et rappelle sa philosophie " d'engagement constructif " quand un manquement à ses standards est constaté.
