China Labor Watch report re alleged use of child labour in Samsung supplier factory

On 6 Aug 2012, China Labor Watch released...[a] report on Samsung’s supplier HEG Electronics...China Labor Watch reported issues of child labour and student labour exploitation as well as...the alleged failure of auditors to uncover the issues. On 8 Aug, Samsung announced its plan to inspect HEG's factory. China Labor Watch welcomed the [move]...but raised additional concerns for the inspection. Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Samsung, HEG...and Intertek, the auditor named, to respond. [company responses provided] On 3 Sep 2012, Samsung released the results from a field audit at HEG Electronics in August. Samsung says that its investigators did not identify any underage workers during the site audit, but did identify student workers between the age of 16 and 18, who were legally allowed to work. The audit also identified several instances of inadequate management and potentially unsafe practices.

Samsung to inspect its China suppliers

South Korean's Samsung Electronics says it will make on-site inspections of all its suppliers in China to ensure compliance with applicable labor laws. The announcement after the New York-based labor rights group China Labor Watch alleged last month that HEG Electronics, a Samsung supplier in Huizhou in Guangdong province-had employed children under the age of 16...Samsung said an earlier investigation of working conditions at HEG identified workers under the age of 18 at the facility but they were student workers or interns over the age of 16, whose presence is legal in China.

Quelques mois après les accords entre Apple et Foxconn pour améliorer les conditions de travail dans les usines d'assemblage, Samsung annonce une grande inspection de ses fournisseurs chinois...L' un de ses sous-traitants ayant été accusé de faire travailler des enfants, le groupe coréen lance un vaste passage en revue de 250 sociétés chinoises fabriquant ses produits ou l'apprivisionnant en composants...Une centaine de sociétés travaillant uniquement pour Samsung seront passées en revue d'ici la fin du mois de septembre tandis que 144 autres qui travaillent pour le groupe mais aussi pour d'autres clients feront également l'objet d'inspections plus tard. Celles qui tarderont à prendre des mesures correctrices verront leur contrat annulé [se réfère à HEG Electronics]
