China Wu Yi blocked from mining gravel in school [Kenya]

A Chinese firm has been blocked from extracting road materials from Olekasasi Primary School compound in Kajiado. County senator Peter Mosite...said China Wu Yi Limited, which is contracted to repair roads in the area, had used dubious ways to win the Sh25 million one-year contract for mining gravel. “We have ordered the firm to stop any mining activity since it poses a grave danger to the 589 children learning in the school,” Mr Mositet said. Ongata Rongai assistant education officer Beth Kitenga confirmed that the firm had been stopped from mining in the school. A year ago, the road construction company was asked by the district education board to stop the mining because of environmental and safety concerns.
