Chinese firm criticised for working conditions [Dem. Rep. of Congo]

A Chinese construction group [China Railway Engineering (CREC)] is inflicting "unacceptable" working conditions on its Congolese labourers in the Democratic Republic of Congo, a leading African human rights group [African Association for the Defence of Human Rights] charged. It said workers were employed without contracts, hours were not respected, salaries were paid at less than the official rate, people were unfairly fired and there was no security and little medical care...
