La Federación Internacional de Sindicatos de la Química, Energía, Minas e Industrias Diversas (ICEM) condena el asesinato...de un trabajador subcontratado que trabajaba con la filial Unión Sindical Obrera (USO) en la campaña de dar plenos derechos sindicales a los trabajadores temporales de Ecopetrol en Barrancabermeja…Isidro Rivera Barrera, de 45 años…[murió el] 26 de septiembre, cuando un hombre armado…le disparó tres veces…La ICEM…ha pedido a la empresa Ecopetrol, a su contratista principal en Barrancabermeja, Foster Wheeler AG, y a las demás empresas subcontratistas, que garanticen seguridad para todos los trabajadores de la industria petrolera…[e] instó a los propietarios de Ecopetrol…y sus contratistas para crear un clima de trabajo donde la libertad de asociación y el derecho de afiliación sindical y de negociación colectiva se consideren como garantías de las libertades civiles.

Contract Workers’ Leader at Ecopetrol in Colombia Assassinated

The International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and & General Workers’ Unions (ICEM) condemns the…assassination of a Colombian contract worker who was working with affiliate Unión Sindical Obrera (USO) to bring trade union rights to temporary workers at Ecopetrol’s Barrancabermeja refining and petrochemicals complex in Santander...Isidro Rivera Barrera, 45, was...in front of his home...when a gunman jumped off a motorcycle and shot him three times…The ICEM...called on Ecopetrol, its major contractor at Barrancabermeja, Foster Wheeler AG, and all other sub-contractors to ensure the security of all oil industry workers in the city. The ICEM further called on...Ecopetrol and its contractors to create workplace climates where freedom of association and rights to join unions and bargaining collectively are considered common civil liberties.
