Colombia: NGO questions obstacles to citizen’s participation in consultation about AngloGold Ashanti’s La Colosa mining Project

Following a number of peaceful demonstrations and protests against AngloGold Ashanti’s open-pit mining La Colosa Project, the Mayor of Ibagué (Tolima) promoted a popular consultation that should have been taken place the first week of October 2016, allowing the population to decide on this planned Project.  However, the Colombian Administrative Court (Consejo de Estado) suspended the consultation.  Before that decision, Dutch NGO Pax for Peace issued a report (in Spanish) criticising the company activities about the consultation.  Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited AngloGold Ashanti to respond to this report; the response is available
