Colombia: Subcontractors of Repsol strike for labour improvements

Author: ANTONIO LÓPEZ, La Verdad, Published on: 20 October 2015

[A]round 400 employees of auxiliary companies that do maintenance work in the Repsol refinery in Escombreras [...] started yesterday an indefinite strike. They threaten to keep it until their companies sign a basic agreement, "in which minimum rights are guaranteed," said the delegate of the industry sector of Workers' Commissions (CC OO), Enrique Bruna, union organizer of the protest... Leaders of CC OO have met this month on three occasions with the affected businessmen to try to reach an agreement. So far only two companies have signed a minimum framework agreement by which they agree to apply the agreement with basic conditions... Since then, according to Bruna complaint, there have been widespread breaches of collective agreements in different areas, especially in relation to compliance with working hours, breaks between days, holiday periods, compensation of overtime and even wages themselves.
