Colombia: The BioCarbono Fund is launched with the aim of promoting sustainable agriculture in the Colombian Orinoquia

…During the international conference Tropical Forest Alliance…the launch of the BioCarbono Fund was announced, which will promote the sustainable development of the Colombian Orinoquia, made up of the departments of Arauca, Meta, Casanare, and Vichada. The Ministry of Environment explained that the $ 20 million dollars that will be invested were delivered by the governments of the United Kingdom, Germany, and Norway in order to reduce "the emissions of greenhouse gases generated by agriculture, deforestation, and other uses from the earth"…The main objective of this alliance, led by the national government in collaboration with the World Bank, seeks to implement an intelligent agriculture that responds to the environmental and climatic challenges the planet faces. With this Fund, the region would implement sustainable and technological practices to protect the different ecosystems of the region and mitigate the consequences of climate change…This region is characterized by housing different ecosystems, among which there are wetlands, tropical forests, and the savannah. For this same reason, the Orinoquia is a region rich in biodiversity with 35% of endemic species. This is why its protection and sustainable use become so important for the economic development of the region and its environmental protection…
