Earlier this month, Shell, BP, BG Group, Eni, Statoil, and Total called for a global price on carbon in advance of critical international climate negotiations.This spring, BP, Shell and Statoil embraced shareholder resolutions requiring greater transparency around reporting on climate risks and lobbying on climate policy...The European companies are positioning themselves as a part of the solution to climate change. But closer scrutiny shows they are not so different from their US counterparts.Through their funding of trade and lobbying associations, Shell, BP and Total continue to sow climate doubt and obstruct climate policies in the US and EU...Shell remains a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council (Alec), a lobbying group that routinely misrepresents climate science to policy makers as part of its efforts to stymie climate policies in the US...Total...claims climate leadership while funding numerous trade associations that have lobbied obstructively on climate change.
