The Fair Trade Advocacy Office (FTAO) speaks out on behalf of the Fair Trade movement for Fair Trade and Trade Justice with the aim to improve the livelihoods of marginalised producers and workers in the South.  The FTAO is a joint initiative of Fairtrade International, the European Fair Trade Association and the World Fair Trade Organization-Europe.  Through these three networks the FTAO represents an estimate of 2.5 million Fair Trade producers and workers from 70 countries, 24 labelling initiatives, over 500 specialised Fair Trade importers, 4,000 World Shops and more than 100,000 volunteers.  More information under:


Event organisation

→ organising logistics of meetings and advocacy events at EU level


→ monitoring of relevant policy news on Fair Trade and Trade Justice


→ editing and publishing monthly Internal Bulletin

→ editing and publishing quarterly external Newsletter

→ writing and publishing ad-hoc press releases & publications

→ managing and updating twitter account and website

Support to analysis and advocacy on EU Trade and Development policies

→ reports on policy developments, conferences

→ liaison with assistants of Members of the European Parliament

Admin support

→ supporting in occasional administrative tasks



→ academic background in Politics, International Relations, Development, Economics, Law, European Union Studies or related fields. Preferably, recent graduates or students at Master’s level.

→ excellent written and oral English skills.

→ good knowledge of the working of European Union Institutions and Trade & Development policy issues.

→ ability to research and analyse policy issues & trade rules.

→ ability to work independently and work in a small team.

→ Microsoft Office expertise.


→ experience in editing newsletters or documents and writing articles.

→ experience in organising events.

→ knowledge of French.

→ knowledge and experience with Fair Trade and/or trade & development issues.

→ experience working with Joomla 2.5 or another website content management system.

Supervisor: FTAO Project coordinator, also working with other FTAO staff (3) and (1) other intern.  Funding FTAO does unfortunately not have funding to pay for the internship position, so applicants need to find grants or external financing and have the internship as part of their studies.
