Over two hundred activists representing people's movements, trade unions, and NGO's working among people affected by mining operations met at the First National Convention in Tukkuguda near Hyderabad on 28 May 2000 - Communities are kept in the dark before mining begins. People are not aware of its implications to their health, water resources and the environment.
