Company fined after employee struck by craned materials [UK]

A company has been fined £12,000 and ordered to pay £7,024 in costs of after pleading guilty to breaching the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974. The company was prosecuted by the HSE after an incident in which an employee used an overhead crane to move an open sided metal stillage of steel tubes…Following an investigation by the HSE it was found that the stillage was unstable due to two clamps being used diagonally in opposite corners. It was also identified by the HSE that using an open sided metal stillage was not suitable and put workers at risk. The organisation should have provided a more suitable safe system of moving the materials around.
