Nine architects and civil engineers have agreed to a consent order to settle claims in a federal lawsuit alleging discrimination against people with disabilities in the design and construction of multifamily housing in Mississippi, Louisiana and Tennessee…The Justice Department alleged in its lawsuit that nine multifamily housing complexes with more than 800 units covered by the Fair Housing Act’s accessibility requirements were designed and built without required accessible features… Under the settlement, approved Thursday by a U.S. District Court judge in Jackson, the defendants will pay of $865,000 to make the complexes they were responsible for accessible to people with disabilities. They also will pay $60,000 to those found harmed by inaccessible housing. The defendants also must undergo training on the Fair Housing Act and to provide periodic reports to the government…
