Cotton produced through forced child labour– European companies held responsible [Uzbekistan]

ECCHR and its partner organizations have filed simultaneous OECD complaints against four cotton dealers in three different countries. In the view of ECCHR (Germany), Uzbek German Forum for Human Rights (Germany), Guido Ehrler (Switzerland) and Sherpa (France) there are indications that the respective companies are trading Uzbek cotton. According to the results of numerous investigations, such cotton is harvested in Uzbekistan through a state-led system of forced child labour. In the opinion of ECCHR and its partner organizations, purchasing this cotton violates OECD-guidelines for multi-national organizations.
