Daewoo Accused of Exporting Military Hardware to Burma

Burmese exiles in South Korea have demonstrated outside...Daewoo International...in protest against the company’s alleged sale of military equipment to Burma...[The] South Korean media [had reported] that government agents had searched Daewoo offices and those of an unnamed defense industry company on August 31. The public prosecutor's office in Seoul is reported to have accused Daewoo of acting as an export agent for the defense company by sending military hardware to Burma against South Korean law... Daewoo...claimed in an interview...[that the] exported goods were lathes and press machines. The public prosecutor’s office was quoted as describing the goods as detonating devices for artillery shells.
