Daimler CEO criticizes right-wing activities of works council faction and says company stands for tolerance & respect

"For Tolerance and Respect – Against Racism and Discrimination", 31. Juli 2019

During the past few days, German media have reported about a film published on the Internet by “Zentrum Automobil”, a works council faction. The film is about two notices of termination, which were given at our plant in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim in 2018. The reason for the terminations were massive racist and xenophobic insults against one colleague, also by using Nazi symbols. We do not tolerate this kind of behavior. Daimler won the lawsuit on these terminations in the first instance, the court approved that the behavior in question was racist and xenophobic.

We usually do not comment on terminations or ongoing proceedings. But the film and the leaflet distributed by “Zentrum Automobil” at the Untertürkheim plant caused confusion. Many allegations made in this film distort the facts. Some of them are simply untrue. From the perspective of our company, the film in an alarming way distorts the perception of who is victim and who is offender.

In this light, it is of utmost importance to our Board of Management to take a clear stand on this matter...

Daimler stands for tolerance, open-mindedness, trust and fairness. Our company backs those who engage AGAINST discrimination and xenophobia and FOR treating each other respectfully.
