[DOC] Letter from Amnesty International to Bill Gates, Chairman of Microsoft

Amnesty International is deeply concerned about the role your company has played in censorship of the internet in the People’s Republic of China...These forms of censorship, along with Microsoft’s signing of the officially sanctioned Public Pledge of self-discipline for the China Internet Industry, contravene not only the 2003 [World Summit on the Information Society] Declaration’s commitment to uphold international standards of human rights, but also the constitution of the PRC which guarantees freedom of expression. The fact that censorship of the internet by the PRC has been made possible allegedly by critical technology provided by major global corporations including your own, also implicates you in repression of freedom of expression.
