Dollar General fights China sweatshop charges

A labor rights watchdog is accusing Dollar General and its majority owner, private-equity titan Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, of tolerating sweatshop conditions at several of its suppliers’ manufacturing sites in China. Dollar General, however, calls a new report by China Labor Watch “inaccurate, unbalanced and incomplete,” saying it has never contracted with two of the four factories mentioned by the group and hasn’t bought goods made at the other two for more than a year... Tawn Earnest, Dollar General’s senior director of corporate communications, disputed the report’s assertions and said Dollar General has for years taken steps to ensure adequate working conditions at its supplier sites.
