Electrical / Security Installation Company prosecuted after child is trapped in electric gates [UK]

An installation company has been prosecuted by the HSE [Health and Safety Executive] after a three year old boy who was playing around an automatic gate servicing the entrance to a primary school was trapped between the gate and post as the automatic gate closed…Following an investigation by the HSE it was found that the automatic gate and associated equipment failed to meet essential health and safety requirements, that they had failed to document a suitable risk assessment identifying the increased risk of children being crushed by the gate and that suitable safety devices (i.e. sensors which would have detected when persons were in the way of the gate and automatically have stopped the gate) were not fitted…
