Flatmates.com.au's response

22 January 2020

As Australia's leading share accommodation website, Flatmates.com.au prides itself on the active role we play in helping consumers find their next home. We are extremely focused on enforcing business rules and terms of use to ensure our members experience a safe and fair environment when choosing Flatmates.com.au.

All members are required to uphold our Community Charter, which outlines inclusive and respective behaviours alongside specific listing requirements. Flatemates.com.au has a dedicated full-time team monitoring the website, liaising with community members and investigating feedback, seven days a week. Any member who is found to have breached our terms of use or Community Charter is removed from using the site and permanently banned.

Current measures to uphold the authenticity of listings on Flatmates.com.au include every listing being subject to over 20 automated security checks prior to publishing, supported by a dedicated listings-review team to manually verify details. Every listing is also subject to mandatory mobile verification to help ensure legitimacy.

To help educate members on share house accommodation in Australia, we offer a number of guides and tools that cover important topics. This information focuses on areas such as member welfare, tenancy agreements and payments, rights and obligations of both tenants and landlords and a pre-agreement check list containing detailed legal information about share accommodation.

As a leader in share accommodation, Flatmates.com.au welcomes ongoing dialogue and collaboration with all stakeholders, including education providers. We remain committed to continually improving the consumer experience when people are looking for their next home.
