SOS-Racisme a subi un sérieux revers jeudi devant le tribunal correctionnel de Paris qui a relaxé les sociétés Adecco et Laboratoires Garnier (groupe L'Oréal), ainsi que trois anciens cadres, qui étaient poursuivis par l'association pour avoir pratiqué la discrimination raciale lors du recrutement de démonstratrices en 2000. SOS-Racisme a immédiatement annoncé son intention de faire appel de cette décision qualifiée "d'inique" par son vice-président, Samuel Thomas. "Cette décision est extrêmement inquiétante car elle engendre le désespoir envers la justice française"...

L'Oréal court verdict won't wash, says French anti-racism group

A French anti-racism group yesterday said it would appeal against a Paris court's decision to clear the cosmetics giant L'Oréal on charges of recruiting shampoo saleswomen according to their colour...Prosecutors argued that "BBR" was a well-known code among employers to mean "white" French people and not those of African and Asian backgrounds...L'Oréal, Districom [the communications company acting for Garnier (part of L'Oreal)] and the recruitment agency Adecco had consistently denied all charges...The judges yesterday ruled that none of the companies had "definitively" taken part in a selection process that could be discriminatory.

La multinacional francesa de cosméticos L'Oréal fue absuelta hoy del cargo de discriminación racista que pesaba en su contra por una polémica contratación de animadoras comerciales...Además de a L'Oréal, el Tribunal...absolvió a su filial Garnier y a la empresa de contratación temporal Adecco, que se encargó de la selección de las jóvenes...L'Oréal destacó que actúa 'en favor de la diversidad y contra toda forma de discriminación'...El origen...data del 2000, cuando Garnier lanzó una campaña de promoción...con la agencia de comunicación Districom...En un fax enviado a Adecco...se precisaba...chicas jóvenes...de tipo 'BBR', lo que la Fiscalía entendió que significaba 'Bleu-Blanc-Rouge', los colores de la bandera francesa. Una forma de significar...que sólo querían chicas blancas...
