...The private sector, in particular oil companies and their sub-contractors, are advised to develop a more systematic community engagement strategy that improves the quality and frequency of community consultations. Dealing with a legacy of problematic and in some cases hostile company–community relations requires putting in place new structures and people to allow for a ‘re-set’ of the currently fraught relations between companies and communities.
