Government has finally secured land where it will resettle the people who opted for physical relocation from...Hoima district...Out of the 2473 property owners on the 29 square kilometer refinery area, 96 opted for resettlement, while the majority preferred cash compensation. According to Hosea Wamboka, the Head of Strategic Friends International (SFI) the consultant overseeing the relocation, government acquired a bigger piece of land compared to what the residents owned. “The total number of acres for those we are relocating is 500, but we purchased 530 acres to allow for access roads and other public spaces,” he said. Richard Orendi, the Chairman of the group that opted for relocation, told Oil in Uganda that they are happy with the land. “We have always wanted to be in Buseruka because we want to be in a fertile area within the oil region,” he said.
