Gucci backs women’s equality campaign

Gucci [part of PPR] is bankrolling a new global equality campaign for women, enlisting support from Facebook and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, at a time when women’s rights are in the spotlight following violent attacks in developing countries. The luxury brand is underwriting Chime for Change, which will formally launch this week...and use social media to funnel donations to a range of women’s education and equality charities…Chime will focus on three areas – education, justice and health…Gordon Brown said: “Chime for Change is a pivotal moment for mobilising public opinion in support of the 32m young girls still not in primary school, and the tens of millions of adolescent girls who do not receive the opportunity of secondary education.” Chime is partnering with several NGOs, including the Global Fund for Women – which campaigns for abortion rights – Unicef, The White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood, and Equality Now.
