Hong Kong: Study shows lack of awareness on importance of mental well-being in the workplace; calls on Govt. to help co.s tackle mental health education

In Hong Kong,..., tens of thousands suffer from mental illness...The study, by non-profit group OCD and Anxiety Support Hong Kong, calls on the government to “take an active role” in incentivising companies to improve workers’ mental wellness...About 60 per cent of respondents...said there were no measures in their workplaces to raise awareness about mental health...“...Mahtani [founder and chief executive officer of OCD and Anxiety Support Hong Kong] says the most shocking find from the study is that almost nothing has been done in the workplace to educate both employers and employees on the importance of mental health.  She says she finds it shocking because previous studies by other groups in the past few years have already shown a decline in workers’ mental health...Mahtani...observes that some mental health sufferers are reluctant to use the services, as they are afraid of being mistakenly labelled as “violent, crazy spoiled and problematic”...
