Suez says that its 30-year concession [in Casablanca, operating through a consortium called Lydec-Lyonnaise des Eaux de Casablanca] - which started in August 1997 - is the first example in the world of a city giving over the management of electricity, water and sanitation services to a private operator under a public-private partnership...Lydec persuaded the authorities to carry out pilot tests to provide essential services to slums using social tariffs.
