Indonesia: Peer-to-peer lending marketplace finances green partnership that empowers women coffee growers

"Investree Provides Green Financing to Empower Rural Women", 11 June 2019

Investree Radhika Jaya, the company behind the popular peer-to-peer lending marketplace, announced a green financing partnership that will allow social enterprise Java Mountain Coffee to provide in-room fresh coffee for guests of Alila Resorts Bali.

...Investree said it would provide financing for in-room coffee capsule machines through a working capital term loan that will give the social enterprise the opportunity to offer a selection of certified biodegradable Nespresso-compatible coffee capsules filled with "farm-fresh" coffee grown by women's cooperatives in Bali and West Java.

...The green financing campaign also advocates for the coffee industry to stop using plastic and aluminum capsules to reduce damage to the environment.

"...Investree...empowers female SMEs involved in this project. Through providing fast and easy access to finance, it is expected that SMEs can be helped financially so their businesses can continue growing and benefit the wider community," Adrian Gunadi, co-founder and chief executive of Investree, said in the statement.

...[T]he lending marketplace said in the statement..."women entrepreneurs themselves face numerous challenges to financing, owning and growing a business, including legal and policy obstacles to business ownership and development."
