Business & Human Rights Resource Centre is an international NGO that tracks the human rights impacts (positive & negative) of over 7000 companies in over 180 countries making information available on its eight language website. We seek responses from companies when concerns are raised by civil society. The response rate is over 75% globally. Our regional researchers are based in Australia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Kenya, Japan, Jordan, Mexico, Myanmar, Philippines, Senegal, South Africa, UK, Ukraine and USA. They draw global attention to the human rights impacts (positive and negative) of companies in their region, seek responses from companies when civil society raises concerns, and establish close contacts with grassroots NGOs, local businesspeople, and others. We have offices in London and New York. The Centre is a non-profit organization and does not accept funding from companies.

Job purpose:
To assist the Finance Team in the smooth operation of the organization’s accounting function for all group entities.

Specific activities include:

  • Receive, record and process all purchase invoices
  • Verify calculations and input codes into the accounts system in an accurate manner
  • Receive and process all expense claim forms and requests for payments
  • Process bank, credit card and petty cash transactions and perform monthly bank reconciliations at month end
  • Post monthly journals
  • Update monthly project trackers
  • Ensure that all filing is done accurately and on a regular basis
  • Provide assistance to the monthly management accounts, quarterly Finance and Administration Committee reports and bi-annual Board reports processes
  • Provide assistance to the annual statutory audit process
  • Provide assistance to the annual organizational budgeting process
  • Provide assistance in relation to funding applications and reports to donors
  • Provide assistance in relation to ad-hoc finance duties as and when required

Person specification

Knowledge and Experience
You will need to have had:

  • Experience of working within an Accounts office within a financial capacity
  • Knowledge and experience of using SAGE LINE 50 (desirable)

Qualifications and Technical Skills
You will also need to:

  • Have excellent IT skills and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office particularly highly competent in the use of Excel including pivot tables, look up functions and formulae are essential
  • Have excellent data analytical skills
  • Part qualified AAT (or other accounting qualification)
