Justice department fines Macy's for discriminatory practices [USA]

Macy's Retail Holdings (Macy's) has agreed to pay US regulators $175,000 as civil penalties to resolve allegations of having violated the anti-discrimination provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA)...[B]esides paying the fine, the retailer would revise its employment eligibility reverification policies and procedures and also provide training to its human resources personnel across the country on the INA's anti-discrimination provision...Macy's employment eligibility verification practices will be subject to monitoring by the justice department and reporting requirements for a period of two years...Based on the investigation, the department determined that Macy's engaged in unfair documentary practices against work-authorized immigrant employees during the employment eligibility reverification process and that some employees suffered economic harm through lost work or seniority as a result…Macy's denied committing immigration-related discrimination or engaging in unfair documentary practices...
