Kenya: Competition watchdog fines four businesses for misleading customers about product quality

"Four firms fined for misleading product quality", 27 January 2020

Juice maker Del Monte Kenya has been fined Sh776,025 by the competition watchdog for misrepresenting the quality of its products. [In] the latest Kenya Gazette, the Competition Authority of Kenya...stated it had entered into a settlement agreement with the firm after it was found to have contravened...the Competition Act: “falsely represent[ing]...goods are of a particular standard, quality, value, grade, composition, style or model or have had a particular history or particular previous use".

[The] the Competition Authority Director-General, Wang’ombe Kariuki, said Del Monte wished to resolve the matter with the regulator amicably.

Azam juice maker (Bakhresa Food Products), was also fined Sh47,711 for a similar infringement on the composition of their juices.
