Kenya: Imperial Bank commits to Children's Rights & Business Principles

"Imperial Bank makes a commitment to Children's Rights & Business Principles"

Imperial Bank…[has] signed a commitment to champion and fulfil children’s rights through the implementation of the Children’s Rights and Business Principles (CRPBs). These are the first comprehensive set of principles to guide companies on the full range of actions they can take in the workplace, marketplace and community to respect and support children’s rights. The Principles are a joint initiative of the Save the Children, UNICEF and UN Global Compact. Speaking during a signing ceremony at the Imperial Bank Head Office, the bank’s director in-charge of Responsible Business, Mr. Anwar Hajee stated that Imperial Bank is keenly aware that for its business to be sustainable; it has to consider not just today’s customers but also future customers and workers. “We have always considered children as a priority stakeholder group –they are the bank’s future customers and employees. Children are also often the most vulnerable population, requiring specific attention to guarantee respect for their human rights.”
