HRD Attack
Avá-Guarani community of the village of Y'Hovy
Sources
Following an attack on 29 December, at around 10pm on 31 December, the Avá Guarani of the Yvy Okaju community (formerly called Y'Hovy) suffered yet another attack. At least six non-indigenous men set fire to another house, shot a boy in the arm with a 22 calibre rifle and fired at least three more shots inside the village. There are eight Ava Guarani in the community with bullets or lead lodged in their bodies.
The Avá Guarani have been demanding the demarcation of their original lands for decades. Farmers, ranchers and other segments of society act criminally against the communities.
The community had already been attacked in July, August and October.
