Sign On: Investor Statement in Support of Mandated Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence in the EU

Deadline: Wednesday, September 29

Dear Investor Colleagues,

We would like to invite you to sign on to the Investor Statement in Support of Mandated Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence in the European Union which, in anticipation of the forthcoming legislative proposal from the European Commission on Sustainable Corporate Governance, supports robust mandated human rights and environmental due diligence. Please fill out this form to sign on no later than Wednesday, September 29.

As many of you are likely aware, the European Commission is expected to release at the end of October its proposal for mandated human rights and environmental due diligence. While investors have supported the passage of such legislation in The Investor Case for Mandated Human Rights Due Diligence, coordinated by the Investor Alliance and signed by over 100 global investors representing $5 trillion in assets under management, now is the time to highlight important elements specific to a European proposal as the Commission conducts its deliberations, including recommendations on:

  • scope of companies subject to mandated due diligence,
  • the nature of due diligence,
  • enforcement, and
  • access to remedy for victims.

Investors can be directly linked to adverse impacts connected to portfolio companies. Therefore, investors understand the importance of robust due diligence legislation, enabling us to identify the greatest risks to people and planet linked to our portfolios and to fulfil our responsibility to respect human rights. Strong due diligence legislation would allow investors to make more informed and sustainable investment decisions.

We will be sharing this Statement with key decision makers and committees within the European Commission and the European Parliament.

Please consider signing this Statement no matter where you are located, as this legislation will have global effects. Should you have any questions or issues accessing the form, please do not hesitate to reach out to [email protected].
