"A centre to help migrant workers", 14 May 2022

The Migrant Workers Resource Centre (MRC) in Banteay Meanchey province was opened by the Centre for Alliance of Labour and Human Rights (CENTRAL) to provide counseling service to migrant workers.

Services provided at the centre includes disseminating information on migration safety and helping migrant workers, former migrant workers or victims of human and labour traffickers.

The MRC in Serei Saophoan municipality’s Kampong Svay commune, also has a library for employment-related research and the centre can also provide training on labour rights or migrant safety.

Central said … that advisors would be stationed at the centre to meet and help people.

Director of CENTRAL Moeun Tola said the new centre would be able to help migrant workers get more information before making the decision to work illegally abroad.

“The migrant workers will get clear information before they decide. The risks and consequences of working illegally in another country will be explained to them,” he said.

Ros Sophany, deputy governor of Banteay Meanchey province welcomed the opening of the centre saying “it will help migrant workers decide whether they want to work legally or illegally. The centre will be able to advise them what to do and put them on the right track.

“It is a good service and our provincial administration will give CENTRAL our cooperation,” she said.
