Cambodia: Garment workers to receive US$212 in 2027 minimum wage as independent union leaders disappointed with final decision to increase US$2

Cambodia's National Council on Minimum Wage has set the minimum wage for workers in the textile, garment, footwear, travel goods and bag-making sectors at $212 for 2027, after employers proposed maintaining the wage at $210 and worker representatives called for $225. Prime Minister Hun Manet added $2 to the majority-backed figure, bringing the minimum wage to $212. However, union leaders and civil society organisations have criticised the increase as insufficient to meet workers' living costs, with the Cambodian Youth Power Union Federation (CYPUF) and Cambodian Alliance of Trade Unions (CATU) calling for a minimum monthly wage of $250.66 and $250 respectively. The total basic wage, including benefits, will range from $231.50 to $242.50 per month in 2027.
