Cambodia: NGOs demand for release of two activists who were detained after video recording a sand dredging activity

"Free Mother Nature activists, say NGOs", 15 November 2017

Twenty-two NGOs released a joint statement…demanding the release of two activists detained by Koh Kong Provincial Court after recording a video of sand dredging.

The NGOs…are seeking freedom for Dearm Kundy, 22, and Hun Vanak, 36.

The pair were held after recording alleged irregular activity of a boat they said belongs to the LYP Group.

They were charged…with incitement to commit a felony and violation of privacy.

“They face many difficulties such as crowded cells, poor prison hygiene, and a shortage of water, food and health care,” the statement said. “They say they are in a four-metre square room with 20 other people.”

…The statement urged the court to drop the charges because they were fundamentally unclear.
