China Water Pollution Map

Following description of website’s main features, provided by Business & Human Rights Resource Centre.] Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs hosts a website that provides information about water pollution in China, including the following: 1) China Water Pollution Map - with information on a) water quality, b) pollutant emission levels and c) source of pollutants in 31 provinces and more than 100 municipal administrations. 2) Pollution Ranking - the severity of pollution in various provinces can be ranked according to the industrial water waste emission level, residential water waste emission level and the types of toxic materials emitted. 3) Environmental Information Transparency Index - the institute compiles an index to reflect the transparency of environmental information revealed by local administrations. 4) Polluting Businesses - the institute lists more than 2500 businesses, including transnational corporations, which are sources of pollution. The institute will collaborate with local environmental NGOs in exposing and monitoring these companies.
