Colombia: Local residents say air and water contamination by palm oil company Oro Rojo remains unresolved

Oro Rojo's activities in Colombia began in 2013, when the Corporación Autónoma de Santander (CAS) - the environmental authority, - granted the company three environmental permits.

Currently, two of these permits are under investigation, considering complaints filled by locals which state that the palm oil company has been discharging waste into nearby waterways, contaminating it and causing health problems to animals and citizens.

CAS has also fined Oro Rojo for air pollution.

We invited Oro Rojo to comment on the allegations, but the company did not respond.
