COP23: Coalition of business, NGOs & energy experts unveil new measures to accelerate renewable energy transition

"COP23: World leaders urged to strengthen renewables action plans", 10 Nov 2017

A wide-ranging coalition of businesses, NGOs, and energy industry experts... unveiled a raft of new measures at the COP23 Summit... designed to accelerate the roll out of renewable energy technologies globally... The Climate Group, IEA, IRENA and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) initiative... [shared] fresh research on how national action plans can be strengthened to enable faster deployment of renewables, new corporate support for clean technologies, and additional funding for renewables research.

The Climate Group announced a new wave of corporate members for its RE100 and EV100 initiatives, which aim to encourage firms to switch to 100 per cent renewable power and 100 per cent electric vehicle (EV) fleets... Air New Zealand, Dutch engineering consultancy Royal HaskoningDHV, Japanese shopping mall developer AEON Mall, and New Zealand utility Mercury became the latest firms to join the EV100 group... Construction firm Mace and banking giant HSBC announced this week they would join RE100, while RE100 member Wells Fargo revealed it has reached its goal of 100 per cent renewable power... "It's fantastic to see continued leadership from companies on climate action - commitments like these are smart business decisions that future-proof operations and boost the bottom line," said Helen Clarkson, chief executive at The Climate Group.
